Outfit Crush

I have been seeing animal or graphic sweaters popping up everywhere lately, and have to say that I really like how Jane styled her top in an updated way. I think that wearing an animal on your shirt could come across as immature (especially when people still say you look 16-18 years old) so adding a blazer matures the look. This is a great outfit for a day of shopping!

My first outfit crush of 2013 is brought to you by none other than Blair of Atlantic Pacific. This type of outfit is one of my go-to looks Monday through Friday. There is rarely a workday that I don't find myself reaching for a button up and jeans. I love how she paired it with the high heeled booties and hat too!

I love how cozy this look is and it's perfect for a day of running errands or just hanging out at home.  If you don't already have a baseball shirt in your closet I recommend buying one. It can easily be dressed up or down, and if worn under a blazer look great as you only see a tiny bit of a contrasting color around the collar.

One of the advantages of working across the street from the mall is that I'm also across the street from JCrew.  I love walking by the mannequins and seeing how each of them is styled and generally gain some sort of outfit inspiration. That's how I felt when I saw this look online, it immediately made me start thinking of ways I could pull the look together. (It also ties in one of my latest obsessions!)

Happy Wednesday everyone! I've started thinking about what I want to wear for Thanksgiving. I'll be with my boyfriend's family and we all like to keep it somewhat casual, because no one likes to feel as stuffed as the turkey after dinner.  I'm considering wearing a pair of super comfortable black skinny jeans from Old Navy with an oversized sweater.  I am loving this black on black outfit with a statement necklace that is a great balance of comfort and style.

Last fall I remember pining over a faux fur vest for virtually the entire season and beyond, but just couldn't decide if I would wear it that often.  After seeing several people wearing them not only in downtown Portland, but also bloggers sporting them again I think I may need to buy one this year!  Once I find one that I like, I think the first time I wear it will be very similar to this look ... classy but updated.

Happy Wednesday! During fall I find myself reaching for my leather pleather jacket and scarf in order to add some warmth but not too much bulk. Not only does this work with jeans, but a bomber jacket also looks great paired with a dress, tights, and boots!  What's your favorite way to stay warm in the fall?

Casual Friday

leopard + stripes

I'm lucky enough to work for a company that allows me to dress pretty casual regardless of the day.  Typically I wear jeans and a blouse, but on Fridays I can tend to be more casual. On any given Friday you could find me wearing an outfit very similar to this one, leopard flats, striped shirt, and dark blue skinnies.  At first glance it may not seem like leopard and stripes "go" but as long as there is a similar color among both patterns I think it's perfectly acceptable to pair them together.  Also both patterns are staples in my closet so it's inevitable that I wear them in the same outfit!

We're experiencing some extraordinary weather in Portland lately, and it's hard to believe that it's the end of September.  Since the mornings are chilly when heading to work, but the afternoons are warm this is a great Monday through Friday work look.  It would look equally great with a cardigan thrown over for work and without a sweater for happy hour after!

With the skies becoming darker earlier in the day and the mornings getting more crisp it's only natural to start thinking about fall.  One of my favorite ways to transition to cooler temperatures is by adding a crisp trench coat to stay warm in the morning and night.  If it's chillier one day just add a cute scarf to spice up the khaki color!

Hey guys, I'm back! I'm not going to lie, it's been a pretty nice break from blogging.  To be quite honest it's been difficult for me to keep up with my blog, and I hate feeling like I'm not giving it my all.  Hopefully I'll be able to start back in the groove of blogging again, and what better way to start than with an outfit that I'm loving.

I finally purchased some Sperry's that I've been lusting over, so I am drawing inspiration from this lovely outfit.  I'm similar to Jill in that I love wearing lightweight sweaters or long sleeve shirts with shorts, and it helps keep from showing too much skin. It's a great look for any cooler days in the forecast.

Now that the mercury has been staying in the "warm" zone I'm super happy to create some different outfit combinations.  I love the idea of a versatile outfit that has layers even in the summer.  Swapping a tank or other top with a long sleeve button-up and vest at night is a fun way to turn your outfit from day-to-night. I love this look by Jane and how she topped her entire outfit with a great army green vest.

A weekend outfit can't get much easier than a colorful skirt and striped shirt right? Also, is anyone else as happy that the denim jacket is back in style as I am?  I'm so happy that I didn't purge my high school denim jacket all those years ago, and have since brushed the dust off it to wear again.  A denim jacket is the perfect topper for an outfit in the summer!

Since I'm not the tallest person in the world, I have always thought that maxi dresses and skirts would never work for me.  But after seeing the wonderful Sydney wearing them (and hearing she's about the same height as me) I think I may be willing to give it a try.  Now the question is, what color do I buy first?

This week's outfit crush is a little different than normal, because I'm longing to go to the beach.  Although I don't have any trips planned to a sunny destination I could wear this in my backyard to tan.  After all, like most Oregonians I could use some more vitamin D in my life and lounging in the sun in a cute bathing suit is just the remedy!

Although before last year I hadn't tied my shirt in a knot like this in a long time.  I think it's a fun way to make a button up top more casual, and it's also a good way to make a work outfit perfect for after work activities.  Since if you're like me you tuck your shirts into your pencil skirt, so after work all you need to do is knot it and voila a different look.

I'm back after a little computer hiatus with a trusty outfit post.  What's a better way to get inspired by your closet than heading over to JCrew and seeing its take on a classic outfit.  Personally I've been wearing my trench coat four out of five work days and love this look with a crisp white top and blue jeans.  I don't think you can go wrong with a nice white button up blouse for any day that you're feeling less than inspired by your closet.

I love a splash of any neon color, but I am really loving neon/highlighter yellow right now.  This look would be great for cooler spring days, all you need is black jeans, jean jacket, and a bright top.  Couldn't be easier, right?

Over the weekend I found a similar skirt to this one at Goodwill, but at first I wasn't sure about the length.  Mid-length skirts don't always look good on shorter people, but I thought what the heck for $3 it's worth trying.  I'm excited to try out a look similar to what Jennifer Lawrence is wearing!

About halfway through my day I realized that I was wearing head to toe Old Navy.  I've never worn head to toe any brand before and think it just shows how much I'm loving Old Navy lately.  I love how this look is another way to wear a summer dress on a cooler night.  Of course it's pairing a chambray shirt with the look as well, and that's just one of the pieces I'm loving lately.
