Happy New Year Everyone - here is to 2011!!

Fill in the Blank Friday

1.   New Year's is (awesome/lame/other): fun but a little lame at the same time.  I feel like there is always a build up about what you should be doing, but most of the time I feel like having a laid back evening at home with friends and watching the ball drop.

2.  Last New Year's Eve I: was still living in Eugene, and we went to a local campus bar.  I remember it being a great time with great friends!

3.  My New Year's resolution is: 1) donate money to the Oregon Humane Society so that they can continue to help pets like the cat we got, 2) really start working out on a regular basis - get out and walk more! 3) crochet another scarf to wear next winter. :)

4.  The best way to spend New Year's Eve is: with friends in a low-key environment. << I agree with you Lauren, the best way to spend any evening is with friends!

5.  My prediction for an up-and-coming trend in 2011 is: flare jeans becoming popular, which I'm hoping doesn't happen because they really are unflattering!

6.  This New Year's Eve I will: here it is New Year's Eve and we still haven't made definitive plans, but we will probably watch a movie, go out to dinner, drink some champagne, and watch the ball drop.

7.  A fresh start is: always a wonderful and refreshing thing to have in life.  This year I think I've had quite a few "fresh starts" and it feels better than ever!

New Year's Eve Cocktails

It seems like everyone is talking about the end of a year and decade (can you believe that New Year's is tomorrow!?).  It got me thinking about what cocktail would be perfect to celebrate the new year.  Martha Stewart has some delicious sounding drinks on her website, click the above links to see the recipes.  What is your favorite celebratory drink?

Wish I Was Here Wednesday

I wanted to play along with Olivia's series on her blog today.  She is a fellow Portland blogger, so I'm sure that she along with anyone else living in the Pacific Northwest can understand why I would rather be laying by the pool in Mexico rather than be in rainy and sometimes snowy Oregon.  I took this photo a few years ago on a family vacation to Cancun.  This vacation was wonderful because it was the first family vacation we had taken in years, and I have a lot of wonderful memories from it!

Outfit Inspiration

{InStyle Magazine via}
Since I haven't explained this weekly Outfit Inspiration series that I started a couple weeks ago, I thought I would take the time to explain my thoughts behind it.  I read through so blogs and magazine on a daily and weekly basis, and am consistently inspired to take more risks with outfits, trends, and styles.  I wanted to share some of the outfits that I'm inspired by in my every day life.

Now onto this week's inspiration.  While I love both of the above outfits and their full and semi-short skirts, I am really drawn to Rashida Jones's outfit.  This is a look that I like to wear in the summer quite often, but I think with a pair of tights it would be perfect for winter weather.  I will probably have to put together a similar outfit this weekend!

New Year's Eve Outfit

I've been struggling to decide what the perfect outfit is to ring in the 2011 year!  In my opinion the style in Portland is a little more casual than dressy for most events, but I've been lusting over the sequin skirt or shirt, and glitter shoe trends.  I think I want to try one of these trends for New Year's eve, but I'm hoping not to spend a large chunk of my paycheck on them.  If you have tried these items, how would you say is the best way to wear them and what is the best value?

Weekend Wrap-Up

 {Lights on Peacock Lane}
 {"City" lights of Roseburg}

Thursday night I celebrated Christmas early with my boyfriend, we went to Henry's Tavern for dinner, and then to Peacock lane, since it turns out the Christmas ships had already stopped for the year.  It was one of the best nights I've had in a long time and can't think of a better way to celebrate.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas weekend.  Santa treated me very well this year and I got a lot of things on my wish list, and was able to spend some wonderful time with my family and both of my parent's cats!  I have to admit, I was beyond happy to be back in Portland yesterday after an almost five hour drive (a lot of wrecks and rain!) it was nice to order some pizza and play a board game.

Tonight I'm going to a get-together at Bridgeport Brewery in Portland. Can't wait to hang out with more pals!

Holiday Goodies

This week I've been baking like mad.  I plan on giving some treats to my boyfriend's parents, my parents, and my pals so I wanted to have a good assortment.  I made Rolo pretzel treats, cranberry, oatmeal, and white chocolate cookies, peppermint bark, and sugar cookies that I bought premixed to support a local childrens' hospital.

Tonight I'm celebrating Christmas with my boyfriend, I plan on going out to dinner and to either Peacock Lane or the Christmas ships to see Christmas lights.  Tomorrow I'm driving to my parent's house to celebrate Christmas with them.  I hope that you have a wonderful holiday and weekend!

Outfit Crush

If you haven't checked out the Little Tin Soldier blog you should add it to your blog roll.  Not only does she have amazing style, but she also draws a picture of her outfit.  I first came across her blog from one of Kendi's 30 for 30 challenges, and have been checking back ever since!

Blazer Game

{My BFF Justine & I}

Right after work last night I went to my very first Blazer game.  If you don't know, the Blazers are the only national basketball team in Oregon.  The game was for my work Christmas party, and we got all you can eat buffet and concession food.  Needless to say, most of my excitement was probably for the food, but who can resist stadium pretzels and hot dogs? That's what I thought, not very many people.  I hope everyone has had a nice Tuesday!

Festive Polish

I almost always have my nails painted, and usually just use a solid nail polish color.  Tonight I decided to use some of my glittery nail polish (most likely left over from high school) and paint over this classic maroon color.  The best part is that the glittery nail polish actually serves as a top coat as well!  The polish color is also perfect for my boyfriend's Christmas party that's tomorrow night!

Happy Friday!

Christmas Decorations

I thought I would share some of the decorations that I've made and put up in our apartment to make it feel more like home.  With the exception of the ornaments on the tree, all of the decorations are made from things I had around the apartment, and they were all so simple to make!

Outfit Crush

I love how simple this outfit is.  Who doesn't have a pair of loafers, summer/fall dress, and a blazer?  This outfit makes her put together, but in an effortless way.

Spinach & Ground Turkey Lasagna

This past weekend I made lasagna for the first time, and the recipe that I found on Epicurious sounded both delicious and healthy so I thought it was worth a try.  I have to admit, I fully expected my boyfriend to not care for it seeing as he doesn't like spinach or mushrooms and the recipe calls for both of them.  I was pleasantly surprised that he liked it, and if that's not a good testimonial I'm not sure what is.

Christmas Stocking

Even though I already have a stocking at my parent's house, I felt like making one for my apartment.  I found the idea on the Better Homes & Garden's website and it couldn't have been easier.  It only took a few items to decorate this stocking, and just a little bit of time.  I chose to decorate my stocking with simple rick rack, but you can decorate it anyway you want.

 {Stocking, scissors, rick rack, Tacky Glue}

{Apply a thin line of glue to the rick rack, and press down on stocking to adhere it}

 {Finished stocking, I wrapped the rick rack completely around the stocking and then cut off the excess.}

Does anyone have any ideas on how to hang the stocking when I don't have a fireplace?

Fill in the Blank Friday

I don't know about you all, but I am so happy that today is Friday.  Today I decided to play along with Lauren's Fill in the Blank Friday series again, and I hope you enjoy my answers.

{Erin Nicole Photography via weheartit via The Little Things We Do}
1.   I wish: that the headache I've had all week would go away before the start of the weekend.

2.  Yesterday I: made Christmas trees out of old magazines, and baked chocolate chip cookies.

3.  Today I will: since I'm home from work for the day, I plan on working out tonight and figuring out this weekend's plans.

4.  Tomorrow I will: go look around H&M, finish Christmas shopping (hopefully), and make lasagna for the first time ... wish me luck! (Does anyone have a recipe they recommend using??)

5.  Maybe: my boyfriend and I will go on a dinner and movie date.

6.  Someday: I will have a house to decorate with lovely Christmas decorations and at least one more kitty cat.

7.  I love: sleeping in and snuggling on weekend mornings, and then have relaxing days filled with coffee, friends, and magazines.
Happy Weekend!!

Jingle Bell Rock

I am in full force Christmas spirit, I've been looking everywhere for Christmas decorations and even just seeing Christmas lights puts a smile on my face.  This holiday is and always has been so wonderful to me.  I've also been gathering some wonderful decoration inspiration from these pictures:

30 days & 30 nights

{Sweater: Limited, Belt: Forever 21, Skirt: Forever 21, Tights: Forever 21, Boots: Steve Madden}

Today's the day, the last day of Kendi's challenge.  I have to admit that I rather enjoyed the last 30 days of having a small amount of items to choose from, it definitely saved me time getting ready in the morning.  I am however, excited to be able to wear my other cozy sweaters and boots tomorrow especially because the weather has gotten colder!  I think this weekend I'll even go through my clothes and shoes and find some stuff to donate to charity, because obviously I don't need everything I own.  To those of you who participated in Kendi's challenge, are you relieved that the challenge is over or wish that it was still going?

Monday Monday

{Cardigan: Target, Sweater: Gap, Skirt, Can't Remember, Belt: Can't Remember, Tights: Target, Oxfords: Nine West}

Today flew by like no other Monday that I can remember for a long time.  Not that I'm complaining, who doesn't love a Monday passing by quickly?  Can anyone believe that tomorrow is the last day of the 30 for 30 challenge? I am in a little bit of disbelief myself, and slightly intimidated by the rest of my closet.  I may just have to continue with a mini-challenge, with a little shopping here or there so that I'm not too intimidated.

Wonderful Weekend

{Cardigan: H&M, Top: Can't Remember,  Jeans: Gap, Brooch: Vintage, Boots: Macy's}

This weekend was filled with friends, food, and festivities.  Let me start off by saying how proud I am of the Oregon Ducks for winning the Civil War and now to be going to the BCS National Championship game for the first time in the school's history.  I'm proud to say I'm an alum.  After the game, it was my pal Sonu's 25th birthday party which was filled with a lot of good pals, some who I haven't seen in several months.  Then today was spent running around doing errands and also getting things for Christmas like buying a tree, ornaments, and lights as well as ingredients for some delicious Christmas treats.  I'm so excited to decorate our tree tomorrow and hang stockings!

Can you tell that it was windy in Portland today? Kind of some crazy hair!

{Cardigan: Target, Shirt: Target, Jeans: Citizen, Flats: BCBG}

Can't Complain

{Sweater: Gap, Belt: Forever 21, Jeans: Gap, Boots: Steve Madden, Earrings: Target}

One of my favorite things is free food, but not just any free food because when it comes to food I'm pretty picky, but delicious free food is great.  This week I've had two delicious lunches bought for me, and also a cup of coffee bought for me at Starbucks.  What's even better though is a good hair day, and folks today I feel like I've had a fairly decent hair day which in itself is an accomplishment with naturally curly hair.  See I can't complain, free food, free coffee, a good hair day, and it's Friday, life is great.

P.S. Go Ducks!!

Fill in the Blank Friday

1.   Holiday spirit: it's in the air all around town.  Portland has even had a snowfall already so that helped put me in the holiday spirit even more!

2.  The holidays are incomplete without: a Christmas tree and Christmas lights around town, family, friends, and peppermint mochas.

3.  My favorite things to do around the holidays is: cut down, well help cut down, my family's Christmas tree and decorate it!
4.  A holiday tradition my family and I have is: opening one present on Christmas Eve, usually watch It's a Wonderful Life because it's one of my mom's favorite movies, and my brother and I each get a new ornament.

5.  Holiday music is: one of my favorite things about the season, I've been listening to it since December 1st anywhere I can.
6.  This year, I'll be spending the holidays: at my parent's house, but I will celebrate it early with my boyfriend.
7.  Holiday wish list: Fossil boyfriend watch, the newest Rascal Flatts CD, cardigans, boots, other accessories, and EA Active.

Oregon Love

{Cardigan: Target, Shirt: Forever 21, Necklace: Target, Skirt: Banana Republic, Tights: Can't Remember, Oxfords: Nine West}

I was reading Real Simple magazine yesterday and they featured these awesome cutting boards in the shape of any state you want, and the cutest part (in my opinion) is that they will put a heart or star over any city you'd like.  Here is the Oregon cutting board, and I am strongly considering buying it or adding it to my wish list.
